{"id":14235,"date":"2023-10-26T12:44:28","date_gmt":"2023-10-26T12:44:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.esgtoday.com\/?p=14235"},"modified":"2023-10-26T12:44:30","modified_gmt":"2023-10-26T12:44:30","slug":"amazon-adds-more-than-1-gw-of-renewable-energy-capacity-in-europe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.esgtoday.com\/amazon-adds-more-than-1-gw-of-renewable-energy-capacity-in-europe\/","title":{"rendered":"Amazon Adds More than 1 GW of Renewable Energy Capacity in Europe"},"content":{"rendered":"<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-14235\" data-postid=\"14235\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-14235 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->\n\n\n<p>Amazon announced that it has added 39 new renewable energy projects in Europe year-to-date, adding more than 1 GW of clean energy capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new projects solidify the Amazon\u2019s position as the largest corporate purchaser of renewable energy in Europe, with a portfolio of 160 wind and solar projects across 13 countries, expected to provide 5.8 GW of clean energy capacity, once operational.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The announcement follows Amazon\u2019s announcement earlier this year that it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esgtoday.com\/amazon-sets-renewable-energy-record-with-over-8gw-of-new-capacity-in-2022\/\">set a corporate record<\/a> for the most renewable energy announced by a single company in one year, adding more than 8 GW of capacity in projects globally in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company\u2019s 2023 European renewable energy investments include projects in nine countries, with 15 rooftop solar installations on Amazon facilities across Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, and the UK, and 24 utility-scale wind and solar projects in Finland, Germany, Greece, Spain, Sweden and the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amazon said that 90% of the electricity consumed by the company globally in 2022 was powered by renewable energy sources, and that it is on track to power its operations, including its AWS data centers, fulfilment centers and physical stores, with 100% renewable energy by 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lindsay McQuade, Director of Energy, EMEA at Amazon, said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cWith more than 160 wind and solar projects in Europe, Amazon is helping to provide new sources of clean energy to local grids, creating jobs, and supporting local businesses as we progress toward powering our operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote><span class=\"et_bloom_bottom_trigger\"><\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Amazon announced that it has added 39 new renewable energy projects in Europe year-to-date, adding more than 1 GW of clean energy capacity.
