{"id":14402,"date":"2023-11-09T15:00:57","date_gmt":"2023-11-09T15:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.esgtoday.com\/?p=14402"},"modified":"2023-11-09T15:04:19","modified_gmt":"2023-11-09T15:04:19","slug":"moodys-launches-framework-to-assess-company-decarbonization-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.esgtoday.com\/moodys-launches-framework-to-assess-company-decarbonization-plans\/","title":{"rendered":"Moody\u2019s Launches Assessments of Corporate Decarbonization Plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-14402\" data-postid=\"14402\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-14402 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->\n\n\n<p>Credit ratings, research, and risk analysis provider Moody\u2019s Investors Service announced today the launch of a framework for Net Zero Assessments (NZAs), a new scoring system aimed at enabling investors to evaluate and compare companies\u2019 decarbonization plans and actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Brian Cahill, Global Head of ESG at Moody\u2019s Investors Service, the new NZAs aim to address the challenges facing market participants in comparing emissions reduction plans across companies, stemming from issues including \u201cinconsistent disclosure requirements, differences in the magnitude, coverage and timing of targets, as well as differences in the capacity of firms to implement their business transformation plans and meet their stated targets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NZAs, based on a 5-point scale from NZ-1 (highest score) to NZ-5 (lowest score), indicate Moody\u2019s opinion of the strength of an entity\u2019s decarbonization profile relative to a Paris Agreement-consistent pathway of achieving global net zero by 2050. The scores consider factors including the strength of an entity\u2019s ambitions, the implementation of its plan and its governance around emissions reductions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moody\u2019s new NZA framework applies to non-financial corporates, including public sector and non-profit entities that have business-like revenue-raising capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cahill added:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cNZAs provide an independent and comparable assessment of an entity\u2019s emissions reduction profile, enabling market participants to better understand the relative positioning of non-financial corporates as they transition to a low-carbon future.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote><span class=\"et_bloom_bottom_trigger\"><\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Credit ratings, research, and risk analysis provider Moody\u2019s Investors Service announced today the launch of a framework for Net Zero Assessments (NZAs), a new scoring system aimed at enabling investors to evaluate and compare companies\u2019 decarbonization plans and actions.
