{"id":14840,"date":"2024-01-02T16:06:53","date_gmt":"2024-01-02T16:06:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.esgtoday.com\/?p=14840"},"modified":"2024-01-02T16:08:36","modified_gmt":"2024-01-02T16:08:36","slug":"macquarie-acquires-50-stake-in-enels-greek-renewables-unit-for-e250-million","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.esgtoday.com\/macquarie-acquires-50-stake-in-enels-greek-renewables-unit-for-e250-million\/","title":{"rendered":"Macquarie Acquires 50% Stake in Enel\u2019s Greek Renewables Business for \u20ac250 Million"},"content":{"rendered":"<!--themify_builder_content-->\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-14840\" data-postid=\"14840\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-14840 themify_builder tf_clear\">\n    <\/div>\n<!--\/themify_builder_content-->\n\n\n<p>Macquarie Asset Management (MAM) announced the acquisition of Greece-based renewable energy company Enel Green Power Hellas from Enel Group for a total equity consideration of approximately \u20ac250 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Launched by Enel Group in 2008, Enel Green Power Hellas develops and operates renewable energy projects in Greece, with a portfolio in of 482 MW of onshore wind, solar, and hydropower projects in operation, and another 84 MW of solar projects under construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The transaction comes as Greece is positioned to significantly increase investment in clean energy over the next few years, with the country\u2019s recently released National Energy and Climate Plan targeting renewable energy capacity of more than 28 GW by 2030, over double current levels, and accounting for 80% of its power mix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The acquisition also marks the latest investment by Macquarie in Greece\u2019s green energy market, following its 2022 acquisition of a 49% stake in Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator. Macquarie added that it has formed a partnership with Enel Group to develop a pipeline of renewable energy projects in Greece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eric Bjonerud, Managing Director at MAM Green Investments, said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cThe Greek market is rapidly accelerating away from fossil fuels and now holds huge potential in helping to accelerate Europe\u2019s decarbonisation efforts.
