GM aims for “zero emissions”<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Automotive giant General Motors announced that it has\nappointed Dane Parker as the company\u2019s Chief Sustainability Officer, beginning\nFeb. 1, 2020. Parker will be the first person to hold the newly created role at\nGM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parker has been with GM since 2015, and is currently serving as Vice President, Global Facilities and Environment, responsible for global environmental compliance, sustainability, facilities operations and construction. Prior to joining GM, Parker was Vice President, Global Facilities and EHS at Dell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New position for GM<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

GM is creating the new role of Chief Sustainability Officer\nas part of the company\u2019s drive toward its stated goal of achieving \u201cZero\nCrashes, Zero Emissions, Zero Congestion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cClimate change is real. That is indisputable, and we take\nthe challenges it presents seriously,\u201d said GM Chairman and CEO Mary Barra.\n\u201cThe transportation sector must be part of any credible climate change solution\nand Dane\u2019s leadership, experience and passion will help us meet these\nchallenges head-on. Our vision of a world with zero crashes, zero emissions and\nzero congestion is ambitious and this appointment aligns our organization to\naccelerate achieving that vision.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of GM\u2019s drive towards zero emissions, the company is\nputting substantial resources behind its effort to develop new electric\nvehicles (EVs), with the stated goal of launching 20 new all-electric vehicles\nby 2023. The company is also working with several of EV charging networks to establish\nthe largest EV charging network in the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Ms. Barra, however, GM\u2019s zero emissions\ncommitment goes beyond just developing new EVs. \u201cFocusing on EVs remains a key\nmeasure of our commitment, but it\u2019s also important to recognize the role our\nfacilities play in enabling our vision of zero emissions,\u201d said Barra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his new role, Parker will oversee responsible consumption\nand production of materials, GM\u2019s efforts as a global advocate for\nclimate-sensitive manufacturing and mobility operations, as well as the\nstrategic design and implementation infrastructure for electric vehicles at GM\nfacilities.<\/p>\n\n
